Snowplow Driver drives a VW

13 01 2009

How does a German snow plow driver get to work? In his Volkswagen bug of course.

This is a German VW beetle commercial from way back but I thought it was pretty good. I’ve heard that the VW beetle does pretty good in the snow because all the engine weight is on the back wheels, but that’s just the word on the street. If you have a classic beetle and know for sure leave a comment and let me know.

Yep the old bugs work great in the snow. I had a 72 for about three years. Loved it. Now I have a 64 with a moon roof. The realy narow tires help a lot too they act like sharp skis and dig deep into the snow rather than slideing on top.

Hello I was 18 when i got my first 1962 VW Bug I drove it for years and living in PA. there was plenty of snow in the winter it always started and I never ever got stuck in the snow no mater how deep it got it would just chug along and i would pass all kinds of cars and trucks and just smile. I loved my Bug when i bought it, it only had 48000 miles she died with well over 225000 miles on her. I took out the back seat built a riser over where the seat was and made it all even in the back. I then took a peace of four inch foam and covered it with a big old quilt and through some big pillows in the corners my friends loved it. My girl friend did to. I really loved that car and I never got stuck in the snow. I am now looking for another one that’s what brings me to your Ebay site!

The author of 61dc.com has written an excellent article. You have made your point and there is not much to argue about. It is like the following universal truth that you can not argue with: Love cannot be faked. Thanks for the info.

Let’s see, 62,67,70 bugs and a 71 super beetle along with a 70 bus, 75 bus and 2 79 westfalia campers and all of them run better in the snow than any 4wheel drive I have ever owned. Just don’t like the lack of heat..lol

Volkswagons are great! They go anywhere. Great for parking places, narrow roads, and snow. The rear wheel drive just keeps you moving down the road. They do great! The only challenge is they are narrow, so they don’t fit perfectly in other cars tracks in the snow, but they are super and you just keep your momentum going down the road and so will you. I never got stuck and I have had many Volkswagons. VW Bugs, especially the Super Beetles because they are alittle bigger. I got studded tires for mine which really helped give it that extra grip when driving on really icey roads or well packed freeways.
If you ever need to get it jumped to start a dead battery, just put it in neutral and have someone push it about 30 feet and pop the clutch and your off to the races. I did this for about 4 guys crammed in an old beetle after a BB game at the college. It makes me laugh to think about how much fun those unique cars were. Yes, you trade defrost for any kind of heat to stay warm. And I have even scraped a fine mist of ice off the inside of the windshield on occasion, but those little cars have heart, and you will have great memories if you ever own one. Good Luck!
